The 2016 event will be the forth running of this event and organisers expect to attract 650-800 registered runners.
The River Run 100 ambassador is four time Olympian, Craig Mottram. When RiverRun100 was established, the goal was to make it a community event, Craig suggested two elements that we adopted to achieve this goal and also make RiverRun100 a unique running event:
1. Firstly, the normal start/finish process is reversed. We ask runners to finish at 3pm (or close to it) and this means people can start at any time they wish. In practice we have a staggered start and a community / group finish.
2. Secondly, all teams MUST run the last 5km together to finish as a community.
These two elements result in a group finish with all runners crossing the finish line at roughly the same time. As a result the running community cheers and supports each other to create a beautiful atmosphere at race end. Many Ultra Runners tell us they normally finish with nothing waiting for them and hence they love the RiverRun100. Plus we think it has to be the most scenic Ultra Marathon in Australia!
