2 weeks and 6 days

TIhis race is open to solo runners (18km) and 2 or 3 person relay teams (5km, 8km, 5km). In 2 person teams, one runner must be able to do 2 consecutive sections.

The race starts as the Kuranda Scenic Railway train whistle blows, adjacent to the Freshwater Station on Lower Freshwater Road, Kamerunga, Cairns, in sunny North Queensland. Leaving the train to begin its 31km winding journey through tunnels and rainforest to the tableland’s town of Kuranda, runners follow Lower Freshwater Road through the sugar cane fields.

The race takes runners along road and challenging trails. After running alongside the mighty Barron River, the runners enter the Barron Gorge National Park at the 5km mark, the site of the 1st water station and relay team changeover point.

Here runners traverse the Douglas Track and the McDonalds Track, through World Heritage forest, exiting at Wright's Lookout Kuranda. This marks the 13km point , the final relay changeover and drink station.

At the Barron Falls Lookout carpark entrance, runners will proceed along a newly formed and sealed bush track to meet with the Jum Rum track about 1/2 way down. The new section has some ups and downs, including a few stairs. The only part on the road will be between Wrights Lookout and the entrance to the trail. The Jum Rum track descends to the banks of the Barron River, passing underneath the rail tracks. From here it’s a flat run through a stand of Melaleuca trees to the finish line, just below the Kuranda Station, and just maybe you have beaten the train.

This year marks the 13th anniversary of this fantastic event.
