Victoria > Melbourne > Sri Chinmoy Tan Team RelaysEveryone who has raced in the relays knows that it is an exciting and fun morning and a great way to finish the year, running a marathon together with friends, family and club buddies on Melbourne’s famed Tan running circuit around the Domain and Botanic Gardens.
Teams have four runners, and every team is issued a relay baton with a timing chip to count your laps. You need to get three of your running buddies together to form a team and you are good to go.
The two “guidelines” of the relay are that the baton has to change runner in a transition zone every lap, and each team member completes a minimum of two laps (7.6km). Teams run 11 laps to complete the marathon distance so a bit of strategy is involved in organising the laps.
All team packs with race numbers and relay batons are picked up by team captains on race morning at the venue. A set of race notes is emailed to everyone who has pre-registered online on the Friday night prior so that you are good to go on race day.
Solo Races: The event also hosts three solo races: 1 lap (3.8km), 3 laps (11.5km) and 11 laps (42.2km) – there is a 100m add-on at the start to make up the exact marathon distance.
Start Times: All races – relay and solos – start together at 8.00am. If you are running the solo marathon, the cut-off is 12:00 noon – contact us if you need an early start at melbourne@srichinmoyraces.org, we have 6:00am and 7:00am starts.Venue and Parking: The staging venue at the “Pillars of Wisdom” on the north side of the Botanic Gardens is easily accessible from the freeway, and parking along Alexandra Avenue is free and unrestricted.
Awards: There are first, second and third place category prizes for teams and medals for the solo race awards including our usual age group categories, and all solo marathon runners receive a special finisher medal.
Runner Services: A secure bag drop is available, along with all of our usual runner services, including a pancake and fruit breakfast.
Entry Deadline: You can enter right up to the morning of the race. However, we encourage you to get your team organised before race day. On the day entry is from 7:00am at the venue.
